High Performance Travel Grant

Objective
The IHC High Performance Travel Grant is designed to provide travel assistance to High Performance athletes to help them achieve success and further their competition experience outside of their province by attending national or international championship competitions.
Grant Details
- $500 per athlete
- Awarded once per calendar year per athlete
- Funds are limited and are awarded at the discretion of the selection committee on a first come, first served basis
Grant Use
The grant must be used toward:
- Travel expenses (flights, fuel, horse transport)
- Accommodation during the event
- Veterinary and health certificates for travel
- Other approved competition-related costs
Eligibility
To be considered for the grant, applicants must:
- Be a citizen or permanent resident of Canada and Prince Edward Island
- Have a Yearly Training Plan with intentions to compete outside of their home
- Be a member in good standing with Island Horse Council and their NSO (Equestrian Canada, AQHA, NRHA, etc)
- Have competed in at least one sanctioned competition on Prince Edward Island in the funding year (if discipline provided)
- Should be competing at or above the following examples:
- Dressage: 1st level and above – EC Gold
- Hunter/Jumper: 0.9m and above – EC Bronze, Silver, Gold
- Eventing: EV90 and above – EC Bronze, Silver, Gold
- Western: Competing at AQHA, NRHA, or similarly recognized affiliations
Selection Criteria
The athlete must be applying for a Nationally or Internationally Sanctioned “Championship” competition (EC, AQHA, FEI, NRHA, etc.) that the athlete has qualified to attend. The selection committee will take into account the competition performance record of the athlete/horse combination.
How to Apply
Applicants must submit the following information to the selection committee via the application form below.
- Complete the Application Form including:
  A personal statement (max. 750 words) including:
    a. Why this grant is important to your development
    b. How you plan to use the funds - A Yearly Training Plan or, at minimum, detail your competition goals for the season
- An outline of travel plans with a detailed budget breakdown of estimated travel expenses
- A competition history from the last year
