Provincial Officials

Developing and licensing accredited judges and stewards to benefit PEI’s Equestrian Community

Island Horse Council is proud to announce  Provincial Foundations Officials Course for those interested in becoming a Provincially Certified Official for Provincial competition circuits.

Entry level officials are a vital part of equestrian sport, thus we are providing the opportunity to train through the new Provincial Foundations Officials Program, with online training offered in partnership with Equine Guelph through TheHorsePortal.ca .

The program provides interested individuals the opportunity to start their career as an official by working towards attaining a recognized card in their chosen discipline(s). It also serves as a stepping stone for those who seek to gain professional accreditation as an official with Equestrian Canada or other Equestrian organizations.

Officials Application Process

Becoming a provincially recognized official is a privilege given to those with the expertise and character needed to merit that designation. The conduct of the individual as both a member and an official must be exemplary and is subject to review and further training as needed. All officials are expected to be proficient and possess a thorough knowledge and understanding of the rules and regulations of the discipline for which they are officiating.

Accreditation is only recognized within Prince Edward Island, however other provinces may accept the accreditation on special request. IHC Provincial Officials may not solicit competitions or organizers for a position.

Applicants must:

Be 19 years of age or older
Complete the Provincial Foundations Officials Course
Complete and submit the application form
Pay the $20 application fee
Submit two letters of recommendation from two members of the equestrian community that are qualified/knowledgeable in the discipline you have requested. One must be a certified official, PTSO or other certification.
